The population of green macaws is making a slow but steady comeback as
a result of education, research, and monitoring. This was confirmed by
the research director of the Tropical Scientific Center Javier Chassot,
who has studied the species, considered endangered of extinction
worldwide, for 15 years. However, he pointed out, the progress recorded
has been increasing from 70 individuals in 2003 to 250 now, which means
there is still a lot to do, since a healthy population would be 500.
