The population of howling and white-headed capuchin monkeys is steadily
increasing at Santa Rosa National Park, established in 1971 in the
Costa Rican northwest Pacific region. Linda Fedigan, from Calgary
University, Canada, reports that the populations of both species who
live in the area’s forests have steadily increased. She explained that
the figures recorded in 1972 were 85 howling and 300 white-faced
capuchins, while in 2007 they had climbed to 620 and 740, respectively.
