November 2009: Update on Costanera Highway (Jaco)

I mis-placed my notes for a month, but found them over the weekend.

Below is the length of time it took me to drive from San Isidro del General to Jaco. I drove this on November 18, 2009 (and again in December).

Leave San Isidro del General (Kafe de la Casa): 7:11 am

7:50 am: Arrive in Dominical (34 km driven)

8:23 am: Drive by Quepos airport (72 km driven)

9:14 am: Arrive to Jaco (139 km driven)

In total, it only takes about 2 hours (123 minutes) to go 139 km, including the road between Dominical and Quepos. For those of you who remember how the road was even two years ago, it is amazing to realize the completion of the Costanera Highway is almost complete. I believe the Southern Pacific zone is going to absolutely explode in popularity (and prices). By 'Southern Pacific' I am referring to Uvita, Ojochal, San Buenaventura, Palmar Norte, Golfito, Puerto Jimenez.

With a new highway, new hospital, hydro-electric project producing a huge reservoir and a new international airport (I'm hoping within the next 5 years), not to mention the incredible beauty, this area is poised for a huge increase in popularity.
