The insurance market has been controlled 100% by INS - a Costa Rican government approved monopoly up until this point. • Costa Rica Elects a New President...actually a Presidenta

  Costa Rican elections are always held on Sundays and are cause for celebration and rest for all. Although Costa Rica is not known for government efficiency or processes (which government is?), their voting system is very efficient and fast. I was in San Isidro del General for this election and there were plenty of voting stations and no long lines. The atmoshpere was much more relaxed than the CAFTA (TLC) vote of October 2007 where emotions were running high on both sides. It was predicted for some time that Laura would win the election - it was just a matter by how much and if she could garner the necessary 40% on the first vote. Read More... • New Caldera-San Jose Costa Rican Highway Opens

  During my last trip to Costa Rica the new highway from San Jose/Alajuela to the Pacific Ocean opened. After almost 40 years of planning, protests by environmentalists and delays, the new highway opened. Having driven both the old road and the new road - the new road is as nice as any highway you would find in the United States. Read More...
