Costa Rica stood out in 2007 as one of the major destinations of direct foreign investment (DFI), since it was first in Central America and second to Chile only in Latin America, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) 2008 report on investment. Last year, Costa Rica received $1,896 million in DFI.
